Session 50a - Dino World

In the town of Salvation, Eberron a party of salvagers sit around a table chatting as they sip some ale, and swap stories.

The table consists of

Demogorgon - Dwarf Pallidan

Garnath - Elf Ranger

Nia - Gnome Rogue

Tortellini - Tortle Druid

Ketchup - Dragonborn Bard

Bugpounder - Goliath Fighter

Shreven - Half Orc Sorcerer

Zakary - Asimar Bard

An old man enters the bar and starts rambling on about a crazy wizard and giant lizards, what catches the groups attention however is the tales of powerful magical items, this is their bread and butter. They decide to chat with the old man, who is missing a leg, has chunks out of his arms, and a collection of scars that any old adventurer would be proud of.

He tells them of the location of the park and the wizard and how to locate it using some specific rock formations on the road to the west of town. They get a good nights sleep and head out in the morning.

finding the rock formations they head up a side trail and find a set of gates. The gates have a sign at the top with "Dino Park" written in friendly text. As they get close three braziers on either side of the gate light up, and they notice a spear in the ground a skull and cross bones attached to the top, one of the bones appears to have been sheered off by something with immense power.

Atop of the skull is a Crow, Zakary decides to talk to it "err hi" he says and the crow responds

"I am the lock, to open the gate you need to solve three riddles" He proceeds to tell them the first riddle:

I have rivers without water,

Forests but no trees,

Mountains without Rocks,

Towns without Houses.

A: A Map

The party guess this one quickly, and he tells them the second riddle

 Back and Forth I go.

Happy in delight, I do go.

When sad, I’m, with no wave.

Tucked below when I’m not brave.

  A: Dogs Tail

While the party try to wok this one out, Zakary uses his slippers of spider climb and scales the wall to the park looking for a way to open the gate, he finds a lever inside but it has no effect, so he climbs back and the party collectively work out what the answer is to this riddle and the Crow speaks the third riddle:

Worms and birds pass but you may not,

Until you open my rusty lock,

Once I’m free, I swing to and fro,

Yet nowhere do I ever go.

A: A Gate

They guess this one and the gates open. Music starts to play from everywhere and no where and a disembodied voice says "Welcome....to Dino Park"

The party proceed through the gates and along a short path to the central plaza area, here they see a huge building with a sign that says Visitor Center, a map on a board, and some abandoned vendor stands.

The map shows them the various areas of the park

1. The plaza (you are here)

2. The visitor Center

3. The Plesiosaur Ponds

4. The Aviary

5. Central Control

6. Staff Only Area

They decide to check out the visitor center first but ultimately want to head to central control. Entering the visitor center they see a huge room with an amazing looking dinosaur on a dais in the center. The Dinosaur has three horns, and is repeating a movement that makes it look like it is eating. Nia stand in front of it and looks into its eyes, while the others check out the top of the dinosaur, as they get closer, it starts to break its bonds, and they have to fight it. Nia Fireballs it, Garnath uses his long bow, while the bards viscously mock it, the Druid hits it with a thorn whip, and the Goliath hits it with sharp metal as they eventually take it down. They find a small box next to the door with a wand of fireballs inside it, the outside is labelled with incase of emergencies.

Next they head to the Aviary where they encounter a Pterradon flying in slow circles around the cage. Tortellini uses his druid powers to befriend the beast and Garnath also talks to it, to determine that its hungry for some kind of food that looks like a mango. They run back and grab some chunks of meat off the Triceratops and encourage the Pterradon to eat.  They decide to leave the beast, and if they cant find the right food for it they will free it if possible or mercy kill it if need be. On the way out they find a wand of Entanglement.

The explore the employees only area to find a tunnel system that is used to go around the park, while some of the tunnels are collapsed they are able to use the main tunnel to get to the control center.

Inside the control center they find a wizard sitting in an octagonal room, with windows facing different areas of the park. The wizard welcomes them, his voice strangely familiar, and he introduces himself as Hammond. They ask him about the park and determine he used the portal which is now not functioning in the center of the room as a way to bring the Dinosaurs from an alternate dimension. That he doesn't care much as to if they survive and is more will to leave them to their own devices while he ponders his next money making scheme.

Looking around the room the party see a couple of weapon racks at the back, but the rage that has built inside Tortellini is just too much and they attack.  The manage to take the wizard down, after an intense battle, where he cast the suggestion spell on Bugpounder and had him attack Demogorgon. ultimately however he is unable to stand up to the combined force of the party.

They loot the room, and head back to free the Pterradon, after not being able to find any mangos, and decide they have the best of the salvage that the park has to offer. Heading back out through the plaza they are confronted with a massive T-rex who lets out an incredible roar as it moves to attack them. Garnath tries talking to the beast but the imagery in its brain id blood gore and rage, and they prepare for combat. They use their ranged attacks, combined with a wall of thorns spell cast by Tortellini to hold the beast, as it rages its way through the thorns it suffers too many small cuts and dies on the spot.

The party get the hell out of there and live to tell the tale of Dino Park another day.
