Session 49 - Confronting The Frost Maiden

Waking up in the yeti cave they find Sopo gone. And decide to go and check out the castle, Valynne and Nass are convinced the Codicil is located in there. 

The recall there was a path leading up to the castle that they had passed on the way to the west side of the Island so retracing their steps they are able to find the path. As they approach they see what appears to be a gigantic skull come out of the mists and as they approach the hear the howling wind moving through the eye holes. 

They enter through the mouth and find themselves inside an amazing building formed from solid blue ice.  A set of doors in front of them with a single word in Dwarvish script etched above the door. 

They knock on the door and as they do it swings easily open and they head inside.

Making their way room to room they finally encounter a Frost Giant Skeleton, who stands as they enter, and challenges them to combat. He is old and bored,  and is ready to die a valiant death in combat. They are able to give him his wish and as he dies they search his domain and find a bunch of treasure.

Continuing on they find a stairway down at the end of the hall, and a large dining room with stairs leading up. They explore the dining room more and see a table sized for Giants with huge Ice slabs for chairs, the pass through and head up the stairs....Valynne, Nogok(Nass) stay behind to inspect the building.

At the top they find a throne room, around the top of the walls are small platforms with Ice Mephits siting on them. Etch charms one and they ask him whats what. They determine that the Codicil is in the basement, and that the Ice Maiden is in the Castle. 

As they heads into the next room he is confronted by Auril. 

The mange to fight Auril finding out quickly that she is a powerful foe, soon Etch is down, then Holgi Snorp and Zilbo.  Auril is using all of her abilities realizing that she is in actual danger, and she misty steps around the party to make various attacks, as the battle continues and when then think they have defeated her, she summons the ice mephits from the other room and makes them explode. 

She is now in her second form, a creature with crystals protruding from her icy flesh, and icy swords are in each of her hands.  As the battle continues, Holgi and Zilbo recover from their damage, but Snorp sadly passes away. Etch is revived by Kurash at this point, and rejoins the fight only to be taken down again.

They take down the second form and what appears is a glowing blue crystal that hovers in its place, firing icy blasts at the group, Etch again is healed but everyone is taking some licks at this point. They manage to overcome Auril in her third form and the crystal shatters into thousands of pieces across the floor. 

A disembodied voice says "You have defeated me for now, but I will return eventually"
