Session 49 - An audience with Sergei

 The party sit around Ismark's parlor and ask what happened to Ireena, he explains that she had a dream or premonition that he was in danger and this was so vivid that she was compelled to get on the road as soon as she could. No sign of her was ever seen along the road, and he is sure she is with Strahd. 

He asks where the party have been and what they have found, they show him the box, bones and book, and he tells them what they have would be of great interest to Strahd, while he doesnt know who the bones belong to, the Tome of Strahd is said to be an artifact that contains insights into Strahds becoming and Strahd has killed people trying to find it. He decides it is time to reveal to them that he has been keeping a secret. He is actually a trained and competent Cleric and that he has access to a scroll that would let him summon the person the bones belong to for discussion. 

They set the box on a table and Ismark reads from the Scroll. A ghostly image of a familiar looking man appears above the bones. I am Sergei Von Zarovich why have you disturbed me from my rest.

The party ask Sergei about Strahd but Sergeis insights are based on the last time he saw him alive when he was still human. Sergei tells the party of a secret entrance on the south east side of the mountain below Ravenloft that will take them into the crypts.  

They ask a few more questions but Sergei seems to have given up all that would help the party. The release him back to his eternal rest and as they are discussing what they should do next there is a knock at the door, Ismark's servant answers the door and returns with word that an encampment has been spotted along the road between Barovia and Vallaki. 

The party set out to check out the camp for signs of Ireena, the camp is in a clearing just off the main road there is a path leading to it where they send Gnarvick to sneak up and scope out whats there, he sees two huge beaked beasts sitting by a fire, a tent and a cart. He sends Jim Bob around the camp to check out what is in the tent and finds it has one bed which looks large enough for the beasts (which he identifies as Owl Bears) and a Chest which he cannot open. 

The party decide to attack by Snowball sneaking up and throwing down an illusion card, he is spotted along the way and while the Kobold illusion is successful the party are now in combat. 

Pallas fireballs the hell out of the Olwbears, and the other is taken down by a combination of attacks but ultimately Denzel puts an arrow through its eye. The party search the camp and find no sign of Ireena, but they do find inside the chest a bunch of Scrolls

The party return to Barovia and plan their attack on Ravenloft.
