Things were going well, all the loot and amazing items, Gifts from the heart of darkness imbuing the party with amazing powers (and some amazing side effects) and then they saw Van Helsing in a pool of blood.
Rushing to his side Denzel asks does he need healing etc, he says no healing will not work nor would he accept it, he lets them know once he dies he will return and a zombie and will be under the control of his assailant.
He is unable to tell them where it came from but he thinks he was hit by a Finger of Death Spell. He asks if they have found any sign of Fiona, and they have not. They tell him of the box they found with the Blinski makers mark on it, and after seeing it he tells them the bones must be of great importance to Strahd to hide them here. If he knows they have them they will be in very grave danger (even graver and dangerous than the rest of their time in Barovia)
He slips away from the mortal plane as Denzel reminiscences of their time together comparing sword flaming techniques and how to get the most out of that sword once its good and flaming etc. Grimdur uses the sunsword to stab him in the brain so he doesnt come back as a Zombie.
They start to search him and find a dagger and then they are attacked, a Suggestion spell his Grimdur giving him one simple instruction "Kill Baromar"
A fox like creature lands around the party and combat begins with Grimdur attacking Baromar, and Snowball who is familiar with Suggestion attacking Grimdur with some vicious mockery asking "Did someone cast animate the dead, because woah that smell is not something living" The Spell is broken and the party battle it out with the Arcanaloth and ultimately get the better of it.
Pallas now that he has the keys to the Dark Gifts starts to go from room to room identifying what Sarcophagi does what. Finding one that provides the Finger of Death spell, he moves on to the next room, and as he opens the door, he is attacked by an invisible assailant, who once appears has the form of Van Helsing.
The party fight it out with this thing using all their usual tricks, it casts a Poisnioius gas cloud that (smells worse than Baromar's feet) does a significant amount of damage to the party outside the room. Snowball who was hanging back moves a little farther and happens to look into the main hall seeing Van Helsing's body still where they left it (Sun Saber shaped hole in the head and all)
Grimdur falls, and shortly after so does Baromar. Gnarvick manages to get out of the gas cloud and things are not looking great.
Pallas runs to the end of the hallway and into the room with one of the few un touched Sarcoughai.
He touches it and receives the dark gift of Norganas, the Finger of Oblivion. Norganas’s gift is the power to turn life into undeath. This dark gift allows Pallas to cast the finger of death spell as an action. three times, after which the dark gift vanishes. When it vanishes, the Pallas must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or drop to 0 hit points.
This dark gift also turns the beneficiary’s blood pitch black and viscid, like tar. Making Pallas have a stong undead like appearance.
He rushes back to the party and.......
Stay tuned for next weeks session of These are the Murders of our Lives.
