Session 30 - New Leads

Arriving in Dougans Hole they head to see the speaker where they get a somewhat friendly but ever so slightly frosty reception. The speaker is meeting with some representatives from Bryn Shander and Easthaven in an attempt to try and setup legitimate supply routes after the destruction of Torgas.

They ask the speaker for accommodations and she sends her assistant out to try and make arrangements. The Assistant returns a short time later and tells them they can stay with one of the townsfolk who is a widower with a large house.

They arrive at his place to see that he has very little left, and a very meagre existence, he appears to have burned a lot of his furniture for warmth, and he has a pot of very basic stew over the fire.

As the party get to know him they discover he is grateful for the company, and that he lost his family to the Rime a few months before. He lives on but is old and struggles. Nogok offers to get some wood for him and he directs him to the town supply of cut wood, but instructs him to only take 3 pieces, it's all about rationing what we have for when we need it the most.

As the night wears on the old man talks of a Gnome in Bryn Shander at at the temple of the morning lord who has a friend doing some weather controlling experiments that they should seek out.

The old man retires for the night and the rest of the party soon drift off to sleep. They head out the next morning for Bryn Shander and seek out the house of the Morninglord.

They arrive and are greeted by a priestess who introduces herself as Mishann, and asks what they seek at the temple. They explain they heard a tale of a Gnome who has some information about a shack in the woods where experiments were being done that could help remove the Rime from Icewind Dale. Mishann yells out (with a strong air of contempt) "Knobknocker get out here" a small gnome in very strange fuzzy suit to Mishann comes out from a back room. He introduces himself as Copper Knobknocker, and asks how he can be of service.

They explain why they are there and Copper grows more concerned as he opens up about Macredeus who was his partner, they went their separate ways after Macredeus' obsession with his experiments overtook his affection for Copper. The party somewhat distracted by the fact Copper is dressed like a teddy bear, ask more questions and offer to go to the cabin to check on Macredeus.

The party head out the next morning to the town of Lonleywood. They Arrive at the speakers house, and as they are heading in they encounter a lady carrying a basket, they ask her what she is doing and she happily explains that she just delivered a fresh batch of halfling cookies to the speaker. Nogok taking this literally gives Layton a warning to beware as they head inside.

The speaker introduces herself as Nimsy huddle, and offers the party a cookie, they take them warily assuming they are made from halflings to find they are not. The speaker asks how she can be of service, and explains that while the local Inn is closed down her attic is available for them to sleep in.

She suggests they head out to the local tavern, and they do that, the Lucky Liar is frequented by Fishermen and Lumberjacks who spend the evening telling tall tales. As the night continues the stories get more and more wild and the locals cheer for the storyteller and buy them a drink. Nogok decides to try his luck at a story and tells one that is not well received by the locals but the party all cheer.

They enjoy the rest of the evening and retire to the speakers attic, where Nox attempts to educate Etch on Chardyn and its history as they drift off to sleep
