Session 22 - Yelp!

Mochi and the others return to the frozen chest where they work away at getting the huge stone chest out of the ice, eventually they release it and find a bunch of flensing tools (giant sized) and a small scrimshaw statue of a goat.

Etch hears a noise in the meeting room and Throt heads in to find three Icewind kobolds hiding, they beg for mercy from Throt and explain that they had snuck in seeking shelter and got trapped when the wolves returned, they were about to make their escape when the party came in and defeated the Mammoth.  Holgi, Snorp, and Zilbo beg for mercy and ask to be released into the wild. Throt says he will consider this and stays with Etch and Kurash to guard them while the rest of the party then around to the cage holding the kids.

After talking with the kids they determine that they were captured when collecting winter berries for their mum by two huge wolves with glowing blue eyes, they were told they would make a fine meal here or back at the wolves lodge and as they wanted to try and escape went willingly with them where they were put in the cage. The boy had been trying to escape and has frostbitten fingers and the girl has frost in her hair, both of them are cold, scared and hungry

Mochi picks the lock to let them out, and as the cage door opens there is a loud Screech, seconds later they hear a lot of wolves howling outside.

Mochi sneaks out to see The two wolves that bought them to the lodge Koran and Kanan now looking much stronger and their eyes glowing blue accompanied by a lot of other normal looking wolves.

Mochi uses message to let the others know and they get in position to attack. Summoning an illusion of a Cassowary Mochi tries to get the wolves to follow it into the cave but is not successful.

They attack the wolves and the kobolds join in the fight seeking to impress Throt and earn their freedom, the have a rocky start but end up managing to do some damage to the wolves and their morale improves significantly as they land some hits and see Throt smile. The fight continues and ends with Kurash as a direwolf, Throt chopping away, Mochi using their crossbow and Etch singing a crossbow into existence and using it against the wolves, and Layton using his longbow to great effect. 

They take down the Winter wolf brothers and there are few wolves left when Kurash speaks with them and asserts his position as their Alpha, they lay down and expose their bellies and Throt kills on that took down Kobold Snorp, during the combat. 

The combat wraps up and they are able to revive Snorp, the three Kobolds swearing to serve the almighty Throt, the wolfs recognizing Kurash as their alpha, and to follow the instructions to follow at a distance and warn of danger. 

They take the kids back to Dougans Hole, and head to their home, as the walk the streets the locals recognize Throt and the kids and start to cheer for Throt the hero. Throt points out that it was a team effort but the locals don't care. 

They arrive at the kids home and their mother Hilda welcomes Silja and Finn with open arms and tears flowing freely. She thanks Throt the hero and says "I have lost so much and thank you for returning the children, My husband and brother died about a year ago and I just don't think I could have shouldered more grief." She runs inside and returns with a pair of boots, which she gives to Throt and says please take these magic boots, they will protect the wearer from the cold. Throt thanks her and they leave.
