Session 52 - Attack on Ravenloft Part 2

The party emerge from the tiny hut rested and ready to fight. They decide that Strahd's coffin is the first thing to go, on inspection they find it to be a special wooden coffin and as such they set fire to it. after watching it burn to ashes, they next decide to take the head of frozen Vollenta with an axe and put it in the bag of holding.

The head to the Tomb of the King and Queen of Ravenloft and see a blue barrier of light between two floor to ceiling statues of guards holding spears. Baromar tries get through but is bounced back to where he started. They try rolling a goblin head, which goes through and sending in Karaki who is also able to fly through the barrier. They also try misty step to no avail, but they do notice that a small enough creature would be able to get behind the statues, as the barrier doesn't extend beyond them. Snowball tries Shatter on the massive Bronze statues and it has some effect but not enough to break the barrier down.

After spending some time not being able to traverse the barrier they decide to move on, after seeing that the only thing in the room is the Royal coffins and some bones on the ground next to the king's one.

Baromar getting bored of all this barrier business decides to open a crypt door, which is the crypt of Baron Eisglaze Drüf. They find the room filled with Brown mold which sucks every ounce of heat out of anyone within 5 feet of it. Pallas tries a firebolt which causes the Mold to expand in his direction and he takes some cold damage.

Meanwhile the rest of the party try some passwords on the barrier to no avail. They open another crypt this time its of Sir Sedrik Spinwitovich (Admiral Spinwitovich). This time there is a funeral barge on top of a pile of gold coins. The Barge is a depiction of a small sailing ship and contains some skeltel remains of a man. The gold coins on closer inspection appear to be painted clay rather than gold. Baromar heads back to Strahds tomb finding everything as they left it he pulls the lever for the portcullis to see if this has an effect on the barrier, which it does not.

They discuss throwing the bodies of the Brides into the mold, but have yet to do this before they head to Sergei's tomb

Here they find fine white marble, the coffin is watched over by three statues, one of a fine looking young man, flanked by two angels. They try to open the coffin, and after Baromar, and Grimdur fail, Ismark walks up and tries, he is very easily able to lift the lid.

Something audibly clicks in Snowballs head.

They look in the coffin and see Ismarks body perfectly preserved. Lying there in shining plate armor which also shows no tarnish or decay, they discuss whose bones they actually have now. After checking for vampire teeth or any signs that Ismark is undead they leave him as Snowball suggest that maybe only Ismark can traverse the barrier as the rest of the party are of questionable alignment.

Ismark passes the barrier with ease and after not finding any mechanism to remove it, he looks to the Crypts. Inside the kings coffin, he finds a very fine wax effigy of the king. The bones on the floor appear to be from a small door in the side of the coffin. The Queens coffin contains some crumpled clothing but no bones or remains. They Decide to put the bones in the coffin and as they do, the bones immediately begin to arrange themselves in the correct positions. Once the arrangement is complete, they feel Ravenloft breathe a deep sigh of relief.

They wish the Queen a happy mothers day and start to plan their next move.
